Alkaline aka
Ionized water, hexagonal water, eloptic water, magnetic water, makes water wetter or causes the water to be better absorb into the cells.
All of these terms for alkaline water can be interchanged as you read these articles!
REGARDING HIGH CHOLESTEROL: "Cholesterol is a naturally-produced, waxy substance that is found throughout the body. It is a functional part of cell walls an
d a building block in the production of various hormones and Vitamin D. While the buildup of cholesterol in arteries can be harmful, mounting evidence suggests that cholesterol is the body's solution to a bigger problem - dehydration.
"It was Dr. Batmanghelidj who exposed the relationship of water to cholesterol in his book "Your Body's Many Cries for Water", Global Health Solutions, Inc. Falls Church, VA. 1992. His attention to the water mechanisms of the body has shown that it is dehydration that causes the buildup of cholesterol in arteries and cell tissue - not necessarily the cholesterol from foods.
"Why does cholesterol build up in our arteries? According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, this is a consequence of concentrated thick blood which results from the digestion of food when too little water is available. Concentrated, acidic blood not only triggers the production of cholesterol, it also causes microscopic abrasions in the lining of arteries. Cholesterol covers these abrasions in an effort to repair the damage (see reference above).
"Unless water intake is increased, elevated levels of cholesterol continue to circulate in the blood adding to the build up in arteries and cell membranes---all because of dehydration."
REGARDING DIABETES: “ In traditional Chinese Medicine, diabetes is referred to as the "thirst disease". It is typified by increased thirst - a huge signal from the body.
"Diabetes is closely tied to the water regulatory systems of the body. Besides bringing sugar (glucose) from the blood into the cells where it provides necessary energy, insulin is also important in the regulation of intracellular water. Insulin helps move potassium (critical to the maintenance of intracellular water) into the cell. Without insulin, cells are deprived of both water and sugar - its two sources of energy.
"When a primary source of energy water is unavailable for the brain, it calls for the next available source - sugar. Since insulin is not required to carry sugar across brain cell membranes, it (sugar) is an easy way for the brain to receive needed energy. Unfortunately, this raises the level of sugar in the blood throughout the body.
"According to Dr. Z.Y. Wang, Director of the Cluster Biology Lab at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. "Proper hydration is critical for people with diabetes because water has to organize around insulin - for every one insulin molecule, you need 440 water molecules."
(reference: CSI memorandum - 2004 - Better Hydration Needed for Diabetics). "Recent clinical studies conducted with diabetic patients by Dr. Wang(and Dr. Lorenzen, et al) in China, showed that a hexagonal water product was 13.4 times more effective at hydration than distilled water. The same study revealed a trend toward lower blood sugar levels in just four weeks.(reference: Wang, Z.Y. et al. Microclustered water and hydration. Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2004) 13: S128."
REGARDING IMMUNE FUNCTION: "Hexagonal water also appears to enhance immune function. In a recent study (J. Pan. et al "Low Resonant Frequency Storage and Transfer in Structured Water Cluster", IEEE 2003 SMC Proceedings, 5034-5039) mice were given a hexagonal water product while a control group was given de-ionized water. After just two weeks, a 60% increase in lymphocyte (white blood cell) production was measured in the hexagonal water group, indicating an improvement in immune function. Cell culture analysis of the spleen ( an organ directly connected with immune function) also indicated immune modulation. Perhaps this is why individuals who drink hexagonal water repeatedly report fewer colds and flu."
Weight Loss There is a
lot of testimonies on the internet, being highlighted by Fox News and CNN, where people lost
unheard of weight loss in a very short time just by alkalizing their bodies.
Just google alkaline water and weight loss. My experience has been that it is easier to
get people to drink alkaline water than it is to get them on an alkaline diet.
It is best to do both. But if I can get people to begin by changing what they
drink the results that they experience many times motivates them to go even
further and change their diets as well. Alkaline water hydrates on a cellular level making the water wetter. This means that it goes more directly into the blood stream. This is wonderful in the fact that it causes the water to greater hydration and that if drinking it while eating organic nutritious foods it causes the body to absorb that nutrition at a greater rate. The problem with starting to drink the alkaline water and not changing to at least a non-toxic diet is that the fact that it will will cause the toxic effect toxins from the toxins in food, like pesticides, MSG, cell destroying sugar, aspartame that turns to formaldehyde, splenda which contains as many chlorides as a strong swimming pool chemical, the kidney, thyroid and liver killing chemicals that are used a preservatives, BPA's from plastic containers and more, to have an even more exaggerated, damaging effect on our bodies because when these toxic foods are combined with alkaline water they will go into the blood stream at a higher rater. Drinking alkaline water can be one of the
greatest and easiest weight loss secrets. But it can be harmful if drinking it with toxic food. It is fine to drink it with high calorie food as long as the food is non-toxic. Make sure the butter, cheese, veggies, and meat is organic. Use agave or stevia as a sweetener. Don't drink it while eating white bread because white bread contains mercury and chlorine which can cause neurological damage and destroy the immune system and cause autoimmune problems. Check the labels of bread and bakery products. Even brown looking wheat bread can contain enriched flour ( code word for bleached white flour).
There are so many marketing companies out there to sell you different methods to alkalize your water how do you know which one to choose. I have tried out many, many different methods. Because this is my occupation people are always giving me samples of they’re products. I have never seen a method that was not good. They all work far as I can tell. I have tried the $5,000 machines, the $1,200 machines, The $500 machines, The $25 pouches, and the $15 liquids and below are my findings.
The word "Kangen" in Japanese means "return to origin" and is simply a marketing term. Kangen water is simply another name for ionized, alkaline water. Nowhere will you be able to find a definition of Kangen water that is different than alkaline water because there is not any. There are many ways that people can alkalize their water. Adding baking soda will alkalize water but to drink it on a regular bases can destroy the balance of your electrolytes and be very dangerous. I do not recommend using that method. There are the little pouches of calcium that you can drop into the water. Even though it is wonderfully healthy it is also very expensive. Especially if the entire family is drinking half their body weight in ounces. A family of 4,( 2 adults and 2 teenagers) would require 2 pouches each person a day or 8 pouches total daily. That would be 56 pouches a week which would cost about $50 a week or $200 per month. The Vitalizer Plus in the long run is a less expensive way to get alkalized water but the up front cost can be hard to come by. It sells for $400 if you go to life4ustore.com and $500 at most other places. The cube which costs about $65 has to be replaced about every 2 months when supplying water for 4 adults or teenagers churning the water at 18 minutes which is what you really need after the first week of use. Most websites gives figures based on only one person drinking the water and only churning it for 9 minutes rather than the 18 minutes. That breaks down to about $$36.50 per month verses $200 per month. I believe, as the cube gets closer to the changing date, the efficiency in alkalizing the water is diminished. The Miracle II Neutralizer is the least expensive way to neutralize your water. 2 gal. per day, which should be the bare minimum for family of 4 adult/teenagers, would require 2 ounces a day which would cost about $1 per day or $30 per month for a adult/teenager family of 4 if buying the 22 oz. bottle which sells for $10 plus $5 shipping or a gallon for $40 plus $14 shipping at life4ustore.com One Gallon should last 2.25 months so the cost would be less than $20 per month for a Family of 4. Deer Park water which you can buy at most local grocery stores can also provide alkaline water but it is about as expensive as the pouches. Drinking Alkaline water has got to be one of the greatest and least expensive things you can do for your health.

Fiber
Fiber is a wonder-nutrient that most people typically don't consume enough of. Fiber slows carbohydrates down in the process of converting into glucose, it lowers blood cholesterol levels, and regulates our blood sugar and glucose levels. It has been shown to be beneficial in treatment of type 2 diabetes, and in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The recommended intake is 25-35g of fiber, which most don't even come close to. I know I typically don't! There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps slow absorption of glucose in the intestines into the blood stream, and also helps lower cholesterol levels. Insoluble fiber causes more effective bowel movements, and binds excessive fats and toxins in the digestive tract for elimination. Insoluble can really help us in the attempt to lose weight and detox our bodies. It also helps protect our colon's function of absorbing nutrients and minerals from the food we eat. Daily doses have proven clinically to do many beneficial things for us, including: lowering our risk of colon cancer, prevention of gallstones, balancing our blood sugar levels, reducing constipation, reducing cholesterol levels, and assisting the maintenance of beneficial bacteria levels in the bowels. Some of the recommended foods that are naturally high in fiber are: ground flax seed, berries, whole grains, beans, peas, and root vegetables. My personal favorites would tend towards the root veggies, beans, and whole grains, and I have never taken a general liking to peas! We must make sure to chose food options that list 100% whole wheat/grains, and still be mindful of whether there are less beneficial aspects of the product, such as high sugar content, saturated fats, etc. Bleached and unbleached flours typically don't contain any fiber, and therefor do not contain the same health benefits that whole grains would have. Whole wheat/grain products typically leave you feeling fuller, longer, which can help when trying to lose weight. An increase in fiber must be matched with an increase of water intake. Without an increase, you could actually dehydrate your colon which could cause gas, and sometimes constipation.
One option most people use for getting the recommended intake of fiber, is products that contain Psyllium, like Metamucil. The issue with this, is that most Psyllium used in the US is imported from India, which has very lax laws regarding the use of pesticides. These pesticides can have highly detrimental effects on our bodies, and can be very dangerous to our overall health.
The better option for fiber intake, would be to include the use of Flax, a great organic option. Flax has the ideal ratio of soluble to insoluble fiber, about 75% insoluble to 25% soluble fiber. A study involving 40 patients with high cholesterol showed that consuming roughly 20 grams of ground flax seed daily was comparable to taking a statin drug. They conducted the study for at least 60 days, at which point they observed a significant reduction in total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol in all participants. Considering the effect was observed as equal for both groups, I'm sure the flax seed is the more affordable option in today's prescription-ridden world! Flax also happens to be a great source of Omega 3 fatty-acids and lignans. It is thought by experts that Flax contains more that 100 times more lignans than any other source, though no attempt has been made to see how feeding salmon with flax affects their levels. Lignans are a plant estrogen that enters the digestive tract, and help by binding to toxins to assist in eliminating them before they can cause issues. They also help improve the immune system's functionality, and a great deal of attention has been drawn to the benefits lignans bring to prostate health in men.6 Label reading tips (how to guide)
1. The listing of each ingredient is in a descending order of predominance by weight, which means that the ingredient that weighs the most is listed first, and the ingredient that weighs the least is listed last.
2. Some ingredients are considered sub-ingredients and require a separate listing of its contents with a descending order of predominance inside of parentheses before the next comma. In the following example “vegetable oil” and “cheddar cheese” are the sub-ingredients.
(Example) Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (may contain one or more of the following: Sunflower and/or Safflower Oil), Maltodextrin, Whey, Salt, Evaporated Cane Juice, Cheddar Cheese (Pasteurized Milk, Cheese Cultures, Salt, Enzymes), Parsley, Red Pepper, Turmeric, Nonfat Milk Powder, Disodium Phosphate, Natural Smoke Flavor.
3. Similar ingredients are listed several times in order to appear as a less amount. This occurs most often with sweeteners and oils
(Example) Ingredients: Cream Cheese (pasteurized cultured cream, skim milk, cream, natural acids, salt), Pumpkin, Sugar, powdered sugar, Eggs, Wheat Flour, margarine (partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil, skim milk, cultured skim milk, salt, vegetable mono & diglycerides, soy lecithin, vitamin A palmitate, beta carotene for color, artificial flavor), Salt, Natural & Artificial Flavor, Cinnamon.
Sugar could have possibly been listed as the first (most used) ingredient if the manufacture decided to use it as the only sweetener. However by using two different sweeteners the manufacturer was able to divide the amount/s and possibly allowing them to occur lower on the list.
4. Weight is not the only thing to consider about an ingredient’s contribution. Knowing that ingredients are listed in order of predominance is useful for ingredients you are familiar with (potatoes, tomato powder, salt, etc.) However this listing order doesn’t indicate the potency of the individual ingredients. A lot of additives and preservatives are so concentrated and condensed that its impact doesn’t require a lot of mass. For example no one disregards the effect of an aspirin due to its small size.
5. A 0g (grams) of trans fat and a 0g of sugar listing in the Nutrient Facts chart doesn’t necessarily mean that sugar and trans fat isn’t present in that food product. Serving sizes often trend to be smaller than what is easy to presume. (20oz drink being 2.5 servings) The smaller the serving sizes run the easier it is to have less than 0.5g of an ingredient present which usually reads as 0g.
6. Read everything, the good the bad and the ugly.
The Good:
It’s important to read the ingredients even it says all natural, or organic, or appears to be very simple, like a can of chick peas. Just because you in a “health food store” or “health food section of a store” there is no reason to let your guard down. There are plenty of manufacturers that think it’s a great idea to charge you twice as much for the same ol’ products sold everywhere else, only with less clever packaging.
The Bad:
Do I really need to read the ingredients of an éclair? I have no indication that there are any redeeming qualities within this pastry of evil, so why bother? Well because it is very useful to know to what degree you are compromising yourself. Ignorance is bliss until you step on the bathroom scale or receive the doctor’s bill. No one is talking you out of your dessert; I’m merely relaying the usefulness of knowing that if brand A) cookie is equal to cookie brand
in pleasure and satisfaction then why not choose the one least damaging? As well as being informed enough to choose the pie crust made with butter apposed to the pie crust made with hydronated soybean oil. Secondly it makes you more accountable and aware of your eating decisions. It may even have a slim chance of discouraging your original intent of consumption.
The Ugly:
Why read the ingredients if I have no idea what I am reading. Thaimin mononitrate and alpha tocopherol both sound like dubious ingredients but they’re actually beneficial so how am I supposed to make sense of all this? Being aware is the first step of recognition. Just as if you were in a foreign country you develop recognition by familiarizing yourself with the surrounding contents. You’re not going to learn French in one day and you’re not going to understand/remember ingredients in one day. But even with minimal dedication eventually you will improve over time, one ingredient at a time.
I don’t have 5hrs to grocery shop. Do you really expect me to read the ingredients of everything?
Hopefully your diet doesn’t consist of mostly processed, convenient ready-made foods; mini carrots, red potatoes, and dry lentils are usually one ingredient products. However if you wish to enjoy of the conveniences of the 21st century keep in mind that if the ingredients of “product X” are acceptable; chances are you won’t need to read those same ingredients next shopping trip. It usually takes manufacturers a year or two between revisions of “recipes” (ingredients). Once you familiarize yourself with your regular standbys you will only be reading the ingredients of new food products and/or brands.
It isn’t impractical or unreasonable to read the Ingredients listing twice or what’s even better is to have a shopping accomplice to take the secondary glance. You’ll be surprised how much you can miss with the first look.

Six Steps to Weight loss –
1. The first thing is to make sure you are drinking half of your body weight in ounces of filtered water. If you are heavy that much water consumption may begin to purge your body of toxins which can result in weight loss. If you are overweight, another benefit of is drinking that large amount of water should eliminate the soda pop, ice tea and coffee (with it's cream and sugar).
2. Stay away from the artificial sweeteners and sugar because they will cause you to crave carbohydrates. Sugar, corn syrup and high fructose robs your body of energy and is very fattening, high calorie junk. If you have to have something sweet try Raw Agave Nectar (raw has minerals that will help your body be alkaline and release toxins from your body which helps you to lose weight and have more energy. Agave Nectar makes great ice tea or lemonade. Agave Nectar is not a low calorie sweetener so limit your consumption of it. It is a lot better than a candy bar though. It will not rob your body of life giving energy like sugar and chocolate does. IF you have energy you are more apt to burn calories.
3. You need to get your blood flowing by making 30 minutes of simple exercise a part of your daily schedule. A brisk walk for 30 minutes without stopping will do. Go to the park if possible. The sunshine and fresh air is great to release stress and reduce the comfort food cravings. You need to try not to walk at the mall where smells of a food court will be. Starting with a simple exercise routine like 30 minutes of brisk walking will be a life style change that is realistic to keep. Some people start off trying to imitate the Biggest Loser show and a month later they have abandoned the exercise all together.
4. Stay away from impulse eating. Decide the first day of the week what you will eat on each day. Go to the grocery store with a list based on your decision. An addict doesn't want to wait until the craving for food hits. Eat before your feel hungry. Try to break the eating out habit somewhat by eating fruit for breakfast, wait 30 minutes before eating anything else, and then eat some source of protein to slow the digestion of carbs and the enzymes from the fruit will help digest the protein so you won’t feel sluggish after eating. This will also lessen the fluctuating of blood sugar which will mean more energy through out the day and less mood swings. Less mood swings means less craving of high calorie comfort food. A couple boiled eggs are easy to fix with no dishes to clean check out the recipes tab on the www.life4ustore.com . A fried egg will work but use very little oil. Stay away from styro foam plates. They are very toxic. White paper plates are a better choice if you want no dishes. Breakfast is usually the easiest meal to control. Your
self control is the strongest when your glutithione levels are the highest which is when you first wake up. Also in the morning you are at the controlled environment of your home. If you behave when grocery shopping, there isn’t temptations in the house. Saying no once a week to something at the store will save you from saying no 5 times a day to it at home. Fix yourself a sandwich for lunch, the night before, on 100% whole wheat bread with low fat, nitrate free lunch meat. Read the label to make sure that nitrates are not in the meat. Those toxins will rob you of energy and will cause inflammation in your body which can cause aches and pains that discourage calorie burning activity. Make sure the bread is 100% whole wheat and not just labeled wheat bread. To find more high fiber ways to lose weight foods and to learn the difference between good and bad fiber read the last part of pg. 1 and first part of page. 2 in the “health manual”. It goes into more detail on this. To add fiber and energy producing nutrients, pack baby carrots or a piece of fruit to accompany your sandwich.
5.Don't eat late at night. This is the hard one because so many times when you go out with friends late at night it is always to a restaurant. Social habits can be very condemning. At the end of the day you can find yourself more susceptible to emotional exhaustion at the end of the day and have a tendency to crave those comfort foods. Plan your dinner earlier in the day when you are not hungry. Schedule what time you will eat dinner so that you will not be as susceptible to eating late at night. If you are in the habit of eating out go ahead and eat out just stay away from white bread ( hamburger/hot dog/ & sub buns, rolls, pizza crust), high fat ( fried food, cheese, butter, casseroles) Instead eat beans ( not the high fat Mexican refried kind), broiled or baked meats are good. No meatloaf, lasagna, tuna or chicken salad. Save it for the weekend. (see point 6 for an explanation )Salad with vinegarett dressing ( no high fat dressing).
6. I encourage people to stay away from the Atkins or South Beach Diet. You can lose weight but you will also lose your health. It is especially dangerous for cardio health and because it is so acid forming it can feed cancer as well as advance digestion problems. I encourage people to use the "S" diet. Behave on the week days. Then allow yourself to Splurge and eat what you want on Saturday, Sunday and on Special days (Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Holidays). This way it becomes a life style rather than a diet to lose 25 lbs. only to abandon the diet and gain it back. If it is Tuesday and you are craving ice cream, tell the ice cream "I will get you on Saturday". It helps if you know that you only have to wait a few days. The "S" diet is a life style diet. If you want to go to a restaurant on Saturday night and eat white rolls smothered in butter go for it, knowing come Monday the controls are back on. If you say that you are going on a strict diet for a month with no splurges, the tendency is to cave in before the month is over. Even if you last the whole month the next month you pig out and just gain the weight back. If you change your eating habits 5 out of 7 days you would see a slow but steady change that can be maintained. I suggest that soda pop is deadly and should never be consumed. If you go 60 consecutive days without it, your taste for it and desire for it will greatly diminish if not disappear. Most people who complete the 60 day soda pop challenge don't even like it when they try it after 60 days. It's like "why did I like this?" With this diet you should only expect to lose about 2 lbs. a week. Over 6 months that can mean 50 lbs. or in a year 100 lbs. The closer you get to your ideal weight the slower the weight loss will be. True this is not a 5-7 lb a week weight loss plan. It is a life time weight loss plan.
6 Most effective factors in weight gain or loss:
1. Caloric intake
2. Dehydration / Hydration
3. Sweeteners and alcohol
4. Inactivity / Activity
5. Consumption awareness (Awareness prior and after consumption. Planning out meals well in advance and for beginners it is often helpful to log everything that is consumed in and journal for seven to fourteen days.)
6. Allowing 4 hrs of digestion before sleeping.
6 most believed weight gain or loss myths:
1. Diet drinks are less fattening.
(Despite the low calorie content the negative effects of the artificial ingredients found in these drinks are even more harmful to a healthy body weight than there original counterparts. The chemicals in them can actually cause you to crave high calorie foods)
2. Reduced Fat Foods are less fattening
(With the exclusion of dairy products, foods that are “reduced / low fat” frequently achieve this effect by manipulating the oil through a process called hydrolyzed. Hydrolyzing the oil not only make the body more inclined to store fat it also has a plethora of other negative effects on the body.)
3. Foods with naturally occurring higher fat content are fattening.
(Other than hydrolyzed fats, the only thing that would make someone consider foods with a high fat content as something fattening, would either be the higher calorie content or the misfortune that both use the term “fat”. In other words what makes fats fattening is the calories of the fat so the real concern of fats are calories and calories are not evil they just need to be managed / monitored. Many plant based fats are currently being used with the intent of weight loss. Plant based fats being nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, etc.)
4. Glycemic index only concerns people with diabetes.
(Glycemic index is a very fundamental and essential component in weight management)
5. Adequate and appropriate sleeping rituals are not related to weight management.
(Sufficient and high quality sleep effects weight loss in many different essential aspects besides the obvious factor of energy levels.)
6. When exercising extensively I need a sports drink / vitamin water / flavored water with electrolytes to improve my endurance.
(There are much smarter ways of getting electrolytes opposed to subjugating yourself to damaging dyes and sweeteners. A few electrolytes are sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium to name a few. Dropping a portable Coral Calcium alkalizing water treatment into you water bottle is just one of many ways to incorporate electrolytes in a healthier manner.)

No changes in diet are required in order to take or receive benefits from moringa. Of course greater benefits can come from diet changes.
An alkaline diet is the greatest diet for health benefits. It is discussed in the book " Health Manual By Bethany Littleford" in the chapter titled PH. This book can be found on our site at life4ustore.com This book also tells which foods are best to get more probiotics and enzymes into your body and why that is important. The first chapter tells why you need fiber in your diet, how to get more fiber through foods, how to know which fiber is good for you and which ones are not. It tells you which foods are the best source of fiber and which sources of fiber are actually bad for your health and why. There is a chapter about sweeteners as well. Many of the sweeteners that are even sold in health food stores are not healthy. The only sweeteners that we recommend are agave nectar, stevia or molasses. Stevia doesn't really taste very good but it is healthy. It's not to bad in coffee. Agava nectar tastes wonderful. It is safe for type 2 diabetics, is alkaline, full of vitamins and minerals and is great for cooking and baking. The book goes into a lot more details about the benefits. We have some recipes on our website life4ustore.com under the recipes tab. Agave is sweeter so it takes less than sugar requirements in a recipe. Basically you can convert any recipe by using a ratio of 2/3 cup of agave for every 1 cup of sugar. You can buy Agave Nectar at Walmart. Molasses is alkalizing and wonderfully healthy but it ha a strong flavor so it isn't real good to use in tea, coffee, most baking or cooking unless you want to add that flavor to what it is your cooking. Cutting out all sugar, corn syrups, fructose, splenda, aspartame, evaporated cane juice, xylitol, organic sugar, Truvia and Sun Crystals from your diet is the first step to health. Learning to eat at least 80% of your diet in alkaline ash foods is very important to your health. The number # 1 thing I teach is to drink plenty of alkaline, filtered water. The book I mentioned tells you how much water you need for your body weight and how to know which water filters are best in the chapter titled " H20". Most filters don't filter out fluoride which is extremely dangerous. The book I mentioned details the dangers of fluoride under the chapter titled "Toxins". This book also teaches why people need to eat organic products and why it is worth the extra cost. Sickness is more expensive than buying organic. The book teaches you how to know the difference between good fats and bad fats. Some fats such as omega 3's are wonderfully healthy for you. This book teaches which foods have " good for you" fats and which ones have " bad for you" fats. I teach a 12 week health course at a live, virtual college called " Sozo Institute of Higher Learning"sozocollege.com I use this book as a text book for my students. Students call in on a conference call to listen to the teaching and at the same time log in on their computers for the visual content of the class. The accredited 12 week course can go towards earning a degree from the college. The Origins of Valentine’s Day
In the third century the Roman Emperor, Claudius II ordered all Romans to worship twelve gods, and he had made it a crime punishable by death to associate with Christians. But Valentines was dedicated to Christ, and refused to worship other Gods. He was arrested and imprisoned. Through letters from his cell, Valentinus urged Christians to show love to everyone, even those that do wrong to them. To further engrave this upon their minds He would sign his letters by drawing a heart.
Seeing that Valentinus was an educated man a jailer asked if his blind daughter, Julia could be brought to Valentinus for lessons. Valentinus began teaching her arithmetic and history. He told her of nature and of God. She began to see the world through his eyes and trusted in his wisdom. She began to question if God really heard our prayers. Julia said that she believed in the redemption power of the Blood of Jesus and asked for Valentinus to pray that she would be healed from the blindness. As they prayed suddenly there was a brilliant light in the prison cell and Julia received her sight. On tFeb 13th the eve of his death Valentinus wrote a letter to Julia urging her to stay close to God and he signed it “ from your Valintine” The next day, on February the 14th, Valantinus was executed near the gate that would later be called “ Porta Valentini” in his memory. It is said that Julia herself planted a pink almond tree near his grave. Today, the almond tree remains a symbol of abiding love and friendship. In the memory of St. Valentine, on February the 14th, people celebrated the life of St. Valentine by exchanging messages of love, affection and devotion then signed them with a heart.
So, how did Cupid, little red devils with pitch forks and a sexy under garments come into the picture?
There are several Greek words for love, as the Greek language distinguishes how the word is used. Ancient Greek has four distinct words for love: agápe, éros, philía, and storgē. The senses in which these words were generally used are given below.
